Three Tips to Keep You Safe While Shopping Online

Online shopping during the holiday season can help us avoid the headaches that come with going to the mall during this busy time of year.

However with the benefits of online shopping come some downsides such as the higher risk of exposure to identity theft.

What can you do to protect yourself?

The best defense is being aware. Here are some tips to keep you safe when shopping online:

1. Don't Use a Public Computer – You do not know the types of spyware or malware that might be present on a public computer; the security can be unreliable.

2. Do Not Store Your Personal Information – Many online stores allow you to save your personal information on their servers to speed up the shopping process. While it may save you a few minutes the risks can be very high – if the site has a data breach your personal information is in jeopardy.

3. Find and Use Filters – Filters can warn you of suspicious websites. Find a filter that will assist in blocking visits to reported phishing sites to help protect you.
