Road Map (indoor game)

Players: 3 or more; referee
Materials: Blindfold for each player, large fold-out road map of your area, tape measure, red crayon, construction paper, cellophane tape, and any small articles of furniture that can be used to an obstacle occur

On the road map, find your location—whether city or street—as precisely as you can, and make a big X over it with the red crayon. Tape the map to the wall. Cut out little car shapes from the construction paper, one for each player. Attach a small piece of cellophane tape to each car shape. As a final preparation, arrange the small pieces of furniture so that the players will have an obstacle course to get through as they cross the room toward the map.

Standing on the opposite side of the room from the map, the players have one minute to study the obstacle course before all the players are blindfolded and the first player is handed a paper car by the referee. The referee spins the player around three times and sends her on her way.

The player holds the car in front of her and, trying to remember where the obstacles lie, carefully crosses the room to the map. The referee should stand besides the crossing player to make sure she doesn’t trip across something and fall, but the first bump against an obstacle counts as a point against her, the second bump counts again, and a third bump takes her out of the game.

If she manages to cross to the road map, she must now pin her car to the map. The object is to pin the car as far from the X as possible without going off the map.

The next player repeats the routine, and then the next player, until all players have either reached the road map and attached their cars, or they have been disqualified by bumping and being taken out of the game.

Now all players remove their blindfolds. The referee goes to the map and uses the tape measure to see which car is farthest form the crayoned X. Any player who has pinned his car on the bare wall is disqualified. The player farthest from the X wins the game.
